Question 1159194: Ambulance service 1122 authority in Punjab claims that average speed of emergency response is less than 20 minutes. There is no past record so that the actual standard deviation of study response times cannot be determined. The response times for selected 10 days are 16, 20, 18,19,15,18,22,25,14 and 13 minutes. Test claim of the authority.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Need to do a t-test with df=9 , so need mean, s, and sqrt(10)
Ho: mean is 20 min or longer
Ha: mean is < 20 min
Can do by hand, but put into calculator with STAT EDIT and put in the 10 values in L1
Can get the mean and sd from STAT CALC 1 1-VAR stats
but can go directly to t-test with STAT TESTS 2
INPT DATA
mu 0 =20
List L1 and freq 1 (should appear)
mu < mu o (the middle one)
Calculate
t=-1.70
p=0.06
the response time could be 20 minutes so the null hypothesis cannot be rejected with these data. (Probably with a larger sample size it would be since this number doesn't have the power to distinguish far enough from the hypothesized mean.
