Assuming that sleeping and watching TV are DISJOINT events, we cam write THESE two equations


    Sleeping + watching = 33

    Sleeping - watching = 23
-----------------------------------   Add the equations.  

    2*sleeping = 33 + 23 = 56;  hence,  sleeping = 56/2 = 28 years.


Then watching TV is  33-28 = 5 years.
