You can put this solution on YOUR website! the room is 12 feet by 10 feet.
take away 2 feet each end of the room and the carpet is 8 feet by 6 feet.
area of the room is 12 * 10 = 120 square feet.
are of the carpet is 8 * 6 = 48 square feet.
120 - 48 = 72 square feet.
area of the border is 72 square feet.
