Question 1158438: Hello, again! This is another problem from my homework that I’m having a little trouble with. As always, any help is appreciated as I'm trying to understand the subject much better. Thank you!
The time, t, required to empty a tank varies inversely as the rate, r, of pumping. If a pump can empty a tank in 2.5 hours at a rate of 400 gallons per minute, how long will it take (in hours) to empty a tank at 500 gallons per minute?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2.5 hours=150 minutes
400 gal/min*150 min=60000 gallons total
60000 gallons total/500 gallons/minute--units at the end are minutes, what is wanted, and it will be 120 minutes or 2 hours
another way is 2.5*400=x*500
x=2.5(4/5)=2 hours
