Question 1158274: an electric store has a current inventory of 50 stereo systems. The lowest priced stereo system in the store sells for $800 and the highest priced stereo sell for $3000. Which of the following is the maximum amount of $3000 systems on hand if the current inventory totals $111,000

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

The maximum number of $3000 systems will be if most of the other systems are the $800 systems.

If all 50 were the $800 systems, the total inventory would be $40,000; that is $71,000 less than the actual total.

Replacing one $800 system with a $3000 system increases the total value by $2200.

The number of times that can be done to make the additional $71,000 is 71000/2200 = 32.27

Of course the answer has to be in whole numbers....

ANSWER: The maximum possible number of $3000 systems is 32.

CHECK: 32(3000)+18(800) = 110400

Since the actual total inventory is $111,000, there is/are some systems that are a bit more expensive than $800.
