Question 1157191: There is an institution for men ages 40-60. There are over 600 men who are members of the institution and 5% of the men wear only one piece of jewelry. Of the other 95% of the members, half wear 2 pieces of jewelry and the other half wear none. How many pieces of jewelry have been worn in this club? You can put this solution on YOUR website!
30 wear 1 piece of jewelry men remaining
285 men wear 2 pieces or pieces
600 pieces of jewelry are worn
Solve mentally (and quickly) with just a little bit of logical reasoning.
Among the 95% who don't wear one piece of jewelry, half wear two and half wear none. So among that 95%, the average number of pieces of jewelry worn is 1.
But the other 5% wear one piece of jewelry -- so on average all 600 men wear one piece of jewelry.
And that of course means the total number of pieces of jewelry is 600.
