You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A%2B8=2%28A-6%29
-
A%2B8=2A-12
8%2B12=A
highlight%28A=20%29

check: 20+8=2(20-6)
28=2*12

Presumably an algebraic solution, as shown by the other tutor, was required.

However, you can get some good brain exercise by solving the problem using logical reasoning. If I were to solve this problem without algebra, I would reason this way:

(1) The difference between 6 years ago an 8 years from now is 14 years.
(2) Since that difference is 14 years, and since his age 8 years from now will be twice his age 6 years ago, his age 6 years ago had to be 14 and his age 8 years from has to be 28.
(3) And so his current age is 14+6=20, or 28-8=20.
