Since we know that 

[ANY NUMBER*][ZERO POWER] = 1    <--[see footnote at the bottom]

then

250 = 1

and since no other power will give 1, then
it must be true that the exponent in 255-x = 1
must equal 0.  The exponent is 5-x, so we put "= 0" after
it and solve:

5-x = 0

You solve for x.
