"An angle measures 144° more than the measure of its supplementary angle. What is the measure of each angle?"

v, the value of the angle's measure
180-v, the value of its supplement

two angles are supplementary if they add to 180 degrees
let one be x
The other has to be 180-x
but x is also 144 more than 180-x, just inserting the 144 into the x and 180-x statement
x-144=180-x
2x=36
x=18 degrees
180-x=162 degrees. Those are the angles, and 162-144=18.
