You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The old jeweler can repair 5 rings in 4 hours.
Jew repairs 5/4 = 1.25 rings/hr
His apprentice can repair 3 rings in 6 hour.
App repairs 3/6 = .5 ring/hr
therefore, working together they repair 1.75 rings/hr
The apprentice began to work 3 hours before the old jeweler began to help.
How long would it take them together to finish repairing a total of 26 rings??
:
let x = time working together
App alone + together = 26
3(.5) + x(1.75) = 26
1.5 + 1.75x = 26
1.75x = 26 - 1.5
1.75x = 24.5
x = 24.5/1.75
x = 14 hrs to do 26 rings
