You can put this solution on YOUR website!

the length of a rectangle is L=%28x%2B5%29 units and its width is W=%28x-3%29 units.
Find the value of x if the perimeter is 40 units.

the perimeter is 2%28L%2BW%29=40...simplify

L%2BW=40%2F2
L%2BW=20....substitute given length and width
%28x%2B5%29%2B%28x-3%29=20......solve for x
x%2B5%2Bx-3=20
2x%2B2=20
2x=20-2
2x=18
x=9
=> the value of x+ is 9
=> the length is L=14 units and its width is W=6 units
