You can put this solution on YOUR website!

let Leah's age be x and Andy’s age y
if the sum of Leah's age and Andy’s age is 34 we have
x%2By=34......eq.1

if 5 years ago the sum of twice Leah's age and three+times Andy’s age was 61+, we have
2%28x-5%29%2B3%28y-5%29=61
2x-10%2B3y-15=61
2x%2B3y=61%2B10%2B15
2x%2B3y=86......eq.2

solve the system:
x%2By=34......eq.1......both sides multiply by -2
2x%2B3y=86......eq.2
------------------------------------
-2x-2y=-68......eq.1.
2x%2B3y=86......eq.2
-------------------------------add both eq.
-2x-2y%2B2x%2B3y=-68%2B86
-cross%282x%29-2y%2Bcross%282x%29%2B3y=18
y=18
go to
x%2By=34......eq.1, substitute y
x%2B18=34
x=34-18
x=16

How old are they now?
Leah is 16 years old now, and Andy is 18 years old now

The sum of leahs age and Andy’s age is 34. Five years ago the sum of twice leahs age and three times Andy’s age was 61 How old are they now?
Let Andy's age be A
Then Leah's is: 34 - A
We then get: 3(A - 5) + 2(34 - A - 5) = 61
3A - 15 + 2(29 - A) = 61
3A - 15 + 58 - 2A = 61

That's IT!! No COMPLEXITIES!
