Question 1152832: my question is if the probability on a excel lab is different then what you get on a calculator?
im doing a binomial probability distribution using excel and the n=20, p=.45
summary of my lab instructions:
Column A
1. In cell A1, type x.
2. In cell A2, type 0 and press Enter. In cell A3, type 1 and press Enter.
3. Highlight A2 and A3 and place your mouse on the lower right hand corner of cell A3. When your cursor changes to a cross (+ ,referred to as the fill handle), click and hold the right mouse button and drag the box to cover from A3 to A22.
Column B
1. In cell B1, type PDF.
2. Place your cursor in cell B2, and click on Function icon, which is fx.
3. Select Statistical from Function Category.
4. Select BINOMDIST from Function name.
5. Click OK.
BINOMIDST (Binomial Distribution) box
a. Type in A2 in Number_s.
b. Type in 20 in Trials.
c. Type in .45 in Probability_s.
d. Type in False in Cumulative.
e. Click on OK.
Place your mouse on the lower right hand corner of cell B2. Use the fill handle to fill from B2 to B22.
Column C
1. Type CDF in cell C1.
2. Place your cursor in cell C2, and click on fx.
3. Select Statistical and BINOMDIST.
4. Click OK.
BINOMIDST (Binomial Distribution) box
Repeat from a to c.
d. Type in True in Cumulative
e. Click on OK.
Place your mouse on the lower right hand corner of cell C2. Use the fill handle to copy the function down through cell C22.
the question i have to do:
p(the summer of success is exactly ten)
p(the number of successes is at most 5 )
p(the number of successes is at least 15)
using the lab the answers would be:
1: .162300371
2: 0.004933408
3: 0.978585644
but if I use the calculator:
1: 0.159349455
2: .0553341877
3: I believe is .0064335525
my lab says to use the chart but is it right?
