You can put this solution on YOUR website!

GOING                  60          d/60           d

RETURN                 40          d/40           d

DIFFERENCE                         2

d%2F40-d%2F60=2, and question asks for d%2F60.

d%281%2F40-1%2F60%29=2
d%283%2F120-2%2F120%29=2
d=2%2A120
d=240

.

Let "t" be the time in hours that Jeff drove on freeway.

Then on the way back, he drove (t+2) hours.

The equation to find t is

    60*t = 40*(t+2).

saying that the distance each way is the same.

From this equation

    60t = 40t + 80

    60t - 40t = 80

    20t       = 80

      t       = 80/20 = 4.

ANSWER.  4 hours.

Solved.
