You can put this solution on YOUR website! going west you add.
going east you subtract.
MST is equal to CST minus 1, therefore when you are going from MST to CST, you have to subtract 1 hour from the trip.
CST is equal to MST plus 1, therefore when you are going from CST to MST, you have to add 1 hour to the trip.
the plane leaves at 6:15 am MST and arrives at 10:24 am CST.
subtract 6:15 am from 10:24 am and then subtract 1.
you will get a trip time of 4 hours 9 minutes minus 1 hour = 3 hours and 9 minutes.
when you go CST to CST, there is no adjustment.
the plane leaves at 11:25 am and arrives at 1:57 pm.
subtract 11:25 am from 1:57 pm.
one way to do it is to translate to military time.
military time gets away from am and pm and just uses a 24 hour clock.
any pm time after 12:00 pm (noon) will have 12 added to it.
therefore 1:57 pm is equal to 13:57 military time.
subtracting 11:25 am from 1:57 pm is the same as subtracting 11:25 from 13:57.
the am and pm designation go away.
13:57 minus 11:25 give you a travel time of 2 hours and 32 minutes.
the other way to do it is to break the time up into two parts.
11:25 am to 12:00 pm is 35 minutes.
12:00 pm to 1:57 pm is 1 hour and 57 minutes.
1 hour and 57 minutes plus 35 minutes is equal to 1 hour and 92 minutes which is equal to 2 hours and 32 minutes after you convert 60 minutes to 1 hour.
your total travel time in the air is 3 hours and 9 minutes plus 2 hours and 32 minutes which is equal to 5 hours and 41 minutes.
that's your time in the air.
add 1 hour and 1 minute for the layover time in chicago and you get a total travel time from salt lake to florida of 6 hours and 42 minutes.
you were asked how long were each of the flights.
the flight from salt lake to chicago was 3 hours and 9 minutes.
the flight from chicago to florida was 2 hours and 32 minutes.
that's your solution.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Most of Florida is Eastern time, not Central.

All airlines, ATC, airports and all flight plans, everywhere on Earth, use GMT, called Zulu time so changes in time zones don't need to be considered.
