Let x be the total number of muffins Ms Teo made.


Of them,  the number of the chocolate muffins is  %284%2F5%29x;

          the number of the blueberry muffins is  %281%2F5%29x.


After selling 84 blueberry muffins and 5%2F8  of the chocolate muffins,  %282%2F5%29x  of the muffin left


    %284%2F5%29x - %285%2F8%29%2A%284%2F5%29x + %281%2F5%29x-84 = %282%2F5%29x.


Solve the equation and find x.


Then %283%2F5%29x  is your answer.

Let original number of muffins be M

Then matrix%281%2C3%2C+%284%2F5%29%2C+of%2C+M%29, or 4M%2F5 of muffins were chocolate, and so, matrix%281%2C5%2C+1%2F5%2C+of%2C+M%2C+or%2C+M%2F5%29 were blueberry

Selling 5%2F8 of chocolate means that matrix%281%2C3%2C+%285%2F8%29+%2A+%284M%2F5%29%2C+or%2C+M%2F2%29 of chocolate muffins were sold

After selling 84 blueberry and M%2F2 chocolate, she had 2%2F5 left, so matrix%281%2C3%2C+%283%2F5%29+%2A+M%2C+or%2C+3M%2F5%29 of muffins were sold

We then get: matrix%281%2C3%2C+84+%2B+M%2F2%2C+%22=%22%2C+3M%2F5%29

840 + 5M = 6M ------- Multiplying by LCD, 10

840 = 6M - 5M

M, or original number of muffins = 840
