You can put this solution on YOUR website!
6X=X+14
6X-X=14
5X=14
X=14/5 ANSWER.
PROOF
6*14/5=14/5+14
84/5=(14+5*14)/5
84/5=(14+70)/5
84/5=84/5

Call the unknown number X.
.
6 times that number is 6*X
.
14 more than that number is X + 14
.
Set the two equal and you have:
.
6*X = X + 14 <==== this may be the answer you are looking for.
.
You can simplify this by subtracting X from both sides to get:
.
5X = 14
.
Solve for X by dividing both sides by 5 to get:
.
X = 14/5 = 2.8
.
Check. 6 times 2.8 is 16.8. Is this 14 more than X. In other words is 16.8 actually 14 more
than 2.8??? Yes it is because when you take 14 from 16.8 you get 2.8, which we found X to be.
.
Hope this helps you to solve the problem.

Translate into an algebraic equation.

6 times a number is 14 more than that number

if a number is x, then
6x+=+x+%2B+14.......move x to the left
6x+-+x+=+14
5x+=+14
x+=+14%2F5
x+=+2.8
check:
6x+=+6%2A2.8+=+16.8
6x+-x+=+14.......
16.8+-+2.8+=+14.......
14+=+14.......
