Question 1151310: If 1/2 * (10p + 2) = p + 7 then 4p =?
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/2 * (10p + 2) = p + 7
0.5 * (10p + 2) = p + 7
0.5 * (10p) + 0.5*(2) = p + 7 ..... distribute
5p + 1 = p + 7
5p + 1-1 = p + 7-1 .... subtract 1 from both sides
5p = p + 6
5p-p = p + 6-p ..... subtract p from both sides
4p = 6
We could stop here since we have the value of 4p.
However, if you wanted to, you could keep going to isolate p
4p = 6
4p/4 = 6/4 ... divide both sides by 4
p = 1.5
Then calculate 4p like so: 4*p = 4*1.5 = 6
Though this is just a bit of busy work and redundant. This extra section is only handy if you wanted to compute something like 7p.
