.

Use the proportion

    5%2F38 = x%2F57.

From the proportion, get x = %285%2A57%29%2F38 = %285%2A3%29%2F2 = 2.5*3 = 7.5 miles. ANSWER

Another way to solve is to notice that 57 is 3%2F2 of 38.

Then the value to answer is 3%2F2 of 5 miles, which is 7.5 miles.

Solved.
