You can put this solution on YOUR website!

-4 is 4 units from zero to the left, and 2 is 2 units from zero to the right: so, if you start at point -4 on the number line, you need to go 4%2B2 units to the right to get to the point 2 on the number line

then, the distance between -4 and 2 on the number line given by the
abs%28-4++-++%282%29+%29+=+abs%28-4+-2%29++=abs%28-6%29=+6 units

.

The distance " d " between the numbers -4 and 2 in number line is

    d = | 2 - (-4) | = | 2 + 4 | = |6 | = 6.

The same distance can be calculated in other way

    d = | (-4) - 2 | = | -6 | = 6.

The answer is the same, independently on the way you calculate it . . .

    * * * Providing that the way you calculate it, is correct (!) * * *

The general rule is: the distance between two numbers in number line is ABSOLUTE VALUE of their difference.
