A plane made a trip of 350 km with the wind in an hour. Returning against the wind it took an hour and 10 minutes. Find the speed of the plane in still air and the rate of the wind.
------------------
Find the 2 groundspeeds, downwind and upwind.
The plane's airspeed is the average of the 2.
-----
Wind speed is the difference between airspeed and groundspeed.

The trip going took 60 minutes; the trip returning took 70 minutes. The ratio of the two times is 60:70 = 6:7.

Since the distance were the same, the ratio of speeds is 7:6. So

7%2F6+=+350%2Fx

x = 300

The speeds with and against the wind are 350km/hr and 300km/hr.

The speed of the plane is halfway between 300 and 350km/hr -- 325km/hr.

The speed of the wind is the difference between 325km/hr and 300km/hr (or between 325km/hr and 350km/hr) -- 25km/hr.
