You can put this solution on YOUR website!

You have X----------Y----------Z
| |<- 2x+8 ->|
| |
|<----- 6x-26 ------>|

XY = (6x-26) - (2x+8) AND we know XY = YZ b/c Y is the midpoint of XZ, so

(6x-26) - (2x+8) = (2x+8)

Solving for x: x = 21 --> XY = 2(21)+8 = 50
+XY+=+highlight%2850+%29
Check:
XY = 50
YZ = 50
XZ = 50+50 = 100 by adding the two segment lengths and by the
formula: 6x-26, XZ=6(21)-26 = 126-26 = 100
