.

Let "d" be the distance under the question.

If travels with the average speed of 100 km/h, the travel time is d%2F100 hours.

If travels with the average speed of 80 km/h, the travel time is d%2F80 hours.

The difference is 5 hours

    d%2F80 - d%2F100 = 5  hours.

It is your "time" equation.

As soon as you get it, the setup is completed.

To solve the equation, multiply both sides by 400. You will get

    5d - 4d = 5*400

     d      = 2000 miles.

ANSWER. The distance is 2000 miles.

CHECK.   2000%2F100 = 20 hours.   2000%2F80 = 25 hours.

         The difference is  25 - 20 = 5 hours.   ! Correct !

Solved.
