You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Use the proportion

    171%2F9 = 342%2Fx,

where x is the unknown number of hours.

The proportion expresses the fact that the rate (hourly rate) is the same in both cases.

From the proportion, find

    x = %28342%2A9%29%2F171 = 2*9 = 18 hours.    ANSWER

Solved.

Or, if you want, you can solve it MENTALLY, without using equations, at all.

The hourly rate is 171%2F9 = 19 dollars per hour.

Then your answer simply is 342%2F19 = 18 hours.

Or, even simpler, if John makes 171 dollars in 9 hours, then, at the same rate, he will make 342 dollars,

which is twice as much as 171 dollar, in 18 hours, which is twice as long as 9 hours.

Of these three solutions methods,  you may choose and use  EITHER  of them.
