Question 114314: You are looking at a side view of a table ona a level floor. one block is on th table and the other is on the floor. when the taller block is on the table, the distance from the top of the block to the top of the smaller block on the floor is 32". when the blocks are switched, i.e. the smaller block is on the top of the table and the larger one is on the ground. The distance between the top of the two blocks is now 28".
a) how tall is the table?
b)the larger block is how much taller than the smalller block?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x=table, y=small, and z=large

when the taller block is on the table, the distance from the top of the block to the top of the smaller block on the floor is 32"
___ x+z-y=32

the smaller block is on the top of the table and the larger one is on the ground. The distance between the top of the two blocks is now 28"
___ x+y-z=28

a) adding the two equations gives 2x=60, so x=30

b) z-y=(x+z-y)-x=32-30=2
