You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Stan's rate LAWN per MINUTES 1%2Fx
Hilda's rate 2%2Fx

1%2Fx%2B2%2Fx=1%2F35-------solve for x, the time for Stan doing the job alone.

3%2Fx=1%2F35
x%2F3=35
x=3%2A35
highlight%28x=105%29
Solution as done was not exactly according to instructions in part (a).

The instructions (or hints) that go with your post, are IRRELEVANT to the problem solution (as in part (a) ),

or simply scare the tutors (as in part (b) ).

How may an answer to this problem go without appropriate units ?   -- Only in the case if it is DEFECTIVE.

How may an answer to  ANY  problem go without appropriate units ?   -- Only in the case if it is  DEFECTIVE.

Without these instructions,  the problem would be much more attractive for tutors,  and you would obtain much more interesting solutions.

Let me reveal one secret to you.

The tutors (and personally, me) do not like very much when the visitors start instruct them.

Keep in mind that you come to the forum to get help from tutors - not to instruct them.

In that special case, when you want to request the solution in some special/specific form,
write your instructions VERY CAREFULLY.

Otherwise, it may happen (as in this post), that posting your instructions, you will demonstrate your incompetency . . .

The specific instructions are poorly stated and therefore worthy of ignoring.

The objective should be simply to help the student learn ways to solve the problem.

Here is a method that uses only logical reasoning, without formal algebra.

Since Hilda works twice as fast as Stan, when they work together Stan does 1/3 of the work and Hilda does 2/3.

So if they mow the lawn together in 35 minutes, Stan does 1/3 of the work. That means it would take him 3*35 = 105 minutes to mow it himself.
