Question 1142655: Twelve less than the product of eight and a number is fifty
What does 'and a number is fifty' mean, very confusing. Answer by math_helper(2461) (Show Source):
1. "a number" is x
2. "Twelve less than the product of eight and a number" is 8x-12
3. "...is fifty" means 8x-12 = 50
Based on my interpretation, x is not an integer, but it is rational.
