elsa, manuel, and ahmad have a total of $106 in their wallets. ahmad has 2 times what manuel has. manuel has $10 less than elsa.
how much do they have in their wallets?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let M = amount which Manuel has.
Then Ahmad has 2M;  Elsa has (M+10).
The equation for the total is
    M + 2M + (M+10) = 106  dollars.
Simplify and solve for M, the amount of Manuel;  then calculate the amounts for Ahmad and Elsa.
My note after reading the post by  @greenestamps.
Unfortunately,  the problem is formulated in the way that  ANY  of the two  interpretations is possible and is admittable.
@greneestamps may think that his interpretation is valid;  with the same basis,  I may think the same about my interpretation.
There is no reason to argue / (to dispute)  here.
One can only regret that our visitors are so careless in their formulations.
Just a note about the problem, addressing the exact question that is asked....
The answer to the question -- "how much do they have in their wallets" -- is $106; it is given in the statement of the problem.
The question does NOT ask how much EACH of them has.
