the car will travel 22 miles on 1 gallon of gas.

since you do not know the speed of the car, you can't determine how many miles it will travel in one hour.

you have to know what the speed is.

if you had, instead, said that the car traveled 110 miles in 5 hours, then you could have divided 110 by 5 and gotten 22 miles per hour.

then you could have said that the car traveled 22 miles in 1 hour.
