Consider any of four lateral faces.


It is an isosceles triangle.


Draw the height in this triangle to the base.


You will get a right angled triangle, whose hypotenuse is 5 cm and one of legs is 3 cm (the half of 6 cm).


Hence, the other leg of this right-angled triangle is 4 cm  (3-4-5 right angled triangle).


Thus the lateral height of the face triangle is 4 cm.


Then the area of one (of each) face triangle is  %281%2F2%29%2A6%2A4 = 12 square centimeters.


Hence, the lateral surface area of the pyramid is 4 times 12 square centimeters, i.e. 48 cm^2.    ANSWER
