Question 1141498: Hello,
I'm not exactly sure how to solve this question and I would appreciate some help.
The university police department keeps track of the number of tickets it writes in a year. Last year the campus police wrote 1460 tickets. Ticket writing on campus follows a Poisson process. What is the standard deviation of the number of tickets written per day by the police?
Thank you very much! Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1460 tickets is 4 tickets a day, which is the mean or Poisson parameter lambda
the variance in a Poisson function is the same as the mean, so variance is 4 and sd sqrt(4)=2
