Question 1141340: Hello,
I would appreciate it very much if someone can explain step by step, how to enter the following into a scientific calculator. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The correct answer should be 0.0286. This question deals with the Poisson Process.
P(3)=(0.8*10)^3/3! = 0.0286
Thank you

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

That doesn't look like the expression for a Poisson process.

I looked online and the expression I saw was

e%5E%28-k%29%2A%28k%5En%2Fn%21%29

where k is a probability.

Assuming the 0.8 you show is the probability, the expression seems that it should be

e%5E%28-0.8%29%2A%28.8%5E3%2F3%21%29 = 0.03834 to 5 decimal places.

Not the answer you say it is supposed to be....

To the reader....

I only know what I found looking online; I have never studied Poisson processes.
