Question 1141153: if a cube of length 16 cm is painted on all faces in blue then cut up into 2cm cube , then how many faces on the 2cm cubes are not painted Answer by greenestamps(13203) (Show Source):
(1) Find the total number of faces on all the small cubes.
After the big cube is cut up, the number of small cubes is 8*8*8. Each of those small cubes has 6 faces.
(2) Find the number of faces on the small cubes that ARE painted.
The faces of the small cubes that are painted are the faces that were on a face of the original cube. The original cube has 6 faces; each of those faces has 8*8 small cubes.
(3) The number of faces of the small cubes that are not painted is the difference between the answers from (1) and (2).
