luke had 22 more stickers than mike at first. mike gave 13 of his stickers to luke. Luke now has 4 times as many stickers as mike.How many stickers did mike have at first?

In the beginning, Luke had 22 more than Mike:

let x = # Mike has to start
then x+22 = # Luke has to start

Then Mike gave Luke 13; so Luke has 13 more than before and Mike has 13 less:

(x+22)+13 = x+35 = # Luke now has
x-13 = # Mike now has

Now Luke has 4 times as many as Mike:

x%2B35+=+4%28x-13%29

Solve using basic algebra....
