Two weeks ago the attendance figures at a basketball game were recorded at 4500. At last week’s game these attendance figures increased by 12%. This week, the attendance figures from last week were down by 15%.
What was the total percentage increase or decrease in these attendance figures over this time?

Two weeks ago :  4500.

Last week     :  4500*(1 + 0.12) = 4500*1.12 = 5040.

This week     :  5040*(1 - 0.15) = 5040*0.85 = 4284.


Decrease      :  4500 - 4284     = 216.


Total percentage decrease over two weeks :   %28216%2F4500%29%2A100 = 4.8%.


ANSWER.  Total percentage decrease over two weeks is 4.8%.
