Question 1138683: A car's rear windshield wiper rotates 125º. The total length of the wiper mechanism is 25 inches and wipes the windsheld over a distance of 14 inches. Find the area covered by the wiper. Answer by greenestamps(13198) (Show Source):
If the length of the wiper arm is 25 inches and it rotates 125 degrees, the the area covered is 125/360 of the area of a circle with radius 25 inches:
to the nearest whole number.
ANSWER: The wiper blade covers an area of approximately 682 square inches.
The phrase "wipes the windshield over a distance of 14 inches" is at best irrelevant and at worst contradictory. Presumably it would mean the tip of the wiper blade travels 14 inches; but with a radius of 25 inches and an angle of 125 degrees, it travels far more than that.
