You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Reading it, Jim is the oldest
Let +x+ = June's age
+%28+x+%2B+9+%29+%2B+x+%2B+%28+x+-+9+%29+=+82+
+3x+=+82+
+x+=+82%2F3+
and
Jim is
+9+%2B+82%2F3+=+27%2F3+%2B+82%2F3+
+9+%2B+82%2F3+=+109%2F3+
+109%2F3+=+36+%2B+1%2F3+
Jim is 36 yrs and 4 months
----------------------------------
check:
+x+%2B+9+=+109%2F3+
+x+-+9+=+55%2F3+
+109%2F3+%2B+82%2F3+%2B+55%2F3+=+246%2F3+
+246%2F3+=+82+
OK

.

            The @josmiceli' solution is wrong.

            I came to fix it and to provide a correct solution.

Jim   + June + Alex  = 82

(x+9)   x    + (x-8) = 82

3x +1 = 82

3x = 82 - 1 = 81

x = 81/3 = 27.

ANSWER. June is 27 years old; Jim is 27+9 = 36 years old; Alex is 27-8 = 19 years old.

CHECK.   27 + 36 + 19 = 82.    ! Correct !

Solved.

Jim is 9 years older than June. Alex is 8 years younger than June. If the total of their ages is 82, how old is the eldest of them?
It's quite obvious that JIm is the eldest
Let Jim's age be J
Then June's is, J - 9, and Alex' is, J - 9 - 8, or J - 17
We then get: J + J - 9 + J - 17 = 82
3J - 26 = 82
3J = 108
The eldest person, Jim, or
