first use given points to ind a slope:

m=%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29
m=%2821-17%29%2F%289-5%29
m=4%2F4
m=1
so far we have: y=x%2Bb
use one point to find b
17=5%2Bb
b=17-5
b=12
