The rate of rapprochement is  (12+5) = 17 mph,


therefore the time before they meet is   Time = Distance%2FRate = 153%2F17 = 9 hours.


Solution 2 

12*t + 5*t = 153   miles  (the total distance)

17t        = 153

t          = 153/17 = 9 hours.      ANSWER
