            Ignore post by @josgarithmetic, since it is totally wrong  (giving the answer of  45  mph for the slower car).

            The correct solution is below:

Let "r" be the speed of the slower car. Then

    6r + 6*(r+10) = 540     <<<---===  the sum of the two distances

    6r + 6r + 60 = 540

    12r = 540-60

     r =  480/12 = 40.

ANSWER. The slower car speed is 40 mph; the faster car speed is 50 mph.
