Start from the right hand side,
7-5=2
Next column over,
1-6
We need to borrow from the next column to the left.
In base 10, you would borrow 10 and add but since it's base 8 you borrow 8.
So add 8 to the 1,
8%2B1=9
So now you can do the subtraction,
9-6=3
So in base 8,
317-265=32
