if the ratio of Kawika’s age to Tony’s age is 3%3A4, we have
K%2FT=3%2F4....solve for T
4K=3T
T=4K%2F3.......eq.1
Two years ago,
Kawika’s age was K-2 and Tony’s age was T-2
if their average age was 12 years, we have
%28K-2%2BT-2%29%2F2=12
K%2BT-4=12%2A2
K%2BT=24%2B4
K%2BT=28 ....solve for T
T=28-K.......eq.1
from eq.1 and eq.2 we have
4K%2F3=28-K
4K=84-3K

The ratio of Kawika’s age to Tony’s age is 3:4. Two years ago, their average age was 12 years. How old is Kawika now?
Since their average age was 12 years, 2 years ago, then their ages totaled 2(12), or 24, 2 years ago
With their ages summing to 24, 2 years ago, their ages now sum to 24 + 2(2), or 28
Let the multiplicative factor be x
Then Kawika's and Tony's ages are 3x and 4x
This gives us: 3x + 4x = 28
7x = 28
