Question 1132673: Amy has a nickle, a dime, a quarter, a half dollar and a silver dollar. after she lost one coin she has exactly seven times as much money as her brother had. Which coin did she lose? Answer by ikleyn(52799) (Show Source):
Ami's total was 5 + 10 + 25 + 50 + 100 = 190 cents.
After she lost one coin, there were THESE POSSIBILITIES for her reduced total :
1) 190 - 5 = 185 cents;
2) 190 - 10 = 180 cents;
3) 190 - 25 = 155 cents;
4) 190 - 50 = 140 cents;
5) 190 - 100 = 90 cents.
Of these 5 reduced total values, ONLY ONE is multiple of 7.
