You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if 5 trucks transport 120 tons in 2 days,
-----
--> 5 trucks transport 60 tons in 1 day
--> 1 truck transports 12 tons in 1 day
=============
how many tons will 7 trucks transport in 3 days.
7*12*3 tons

There are many different ways to solve problems like this; another tutor has shown you one good one.

Here is the method I find easiest to use.

Given: 5 trucks, 2 days, 120 tons

See how each changed parameter changes the number of tons:
(1) 7 trucks instead of 5: multiply the number of tons by 7/5. 120(7/5) = 168.
(2) 3 days instead of 2: multiply the number of tons by 3/2. 168(3/2) = 252.

ANSWER: 7 trucks in 3 days can transport 252 tons.

Use the proportion

120%2F%285%2A2%29 = x%2F%287%2A3%29,

where x is the unknown mass ("how many tons") under the question.

The proportion expresses very simple idea that the "rate of work" of each truck is the same, measured in tons per truck per day.

From the proportion,  find  x = %28120%2A7%2A3%29%2F%285%2A2%29 = 12*7*3 = 252 tons.    ANSWER

By doing in this way, you have easy way to create an equation (a proportion) based on clear idea of the rate of work.

So, you will never make a mistake using this method.

Surely, with the given "nice numbers" you can solve the problem in other way, too.

    If 5 trucks transport 120 tons in 2 days, then it is clear than 1 truck transports 120%2F%285%2A2%29 = 120%2F10 = 12 tons per day.

    Therefore, you need simply multiply these 12 tons by 7 and 3 to get the answer 12*3*7 = 252 tons.

But not always you will be so fortunate to have such nice round numbers - and then recall about my major method !
