You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given an hourly wage (call the hourly wage y) formula:
.
y=0.85x +8
.
where x represents the number of units produced in an hour.
.
You can tell by looking at the right side of this equation that each hour the employee makes
8 dollars plus an additional $0.85 (or 85 cents) for each unit he or she produces.
.
All you need to do is to multiply the number of units the employee produces in an hour by
0.85 and add 8 dollars to that amount to get the hourly wage.
.
In this case, substitute the 10 units per hour for x in the given equation and you get:
.
y = 0.85(10) + 8
.
Do the multiplication on the right side and the equation becomes:
.
y = 8.50 + 8
.
Add the two terms on the right side and end up with:
.
y = 16.50
.
This tells you that an employee who produces 10 units per hour makes an hourly wage of $16.50
.
Hope this helps you to understand the problem a little better.
