Question 1131623: A bus and a car leave a town at 10:30 AM and travel in opposite directions. The bus travels at an average speed of 50km/hr and the car travels at the average speed of 55km/hr
Let t equal the time taken for the journey.
i) Write an expression in t for the distance travelled by bus
ii) Write an expression in t for the distance travelled by the car
iii) write an equation in t to show the time at which the bus and the car are 140km apart
iv) Solve for T
v) If the car and the bus travelled in the same direction, at what time would the car be 30km in front of the bus??

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A bus and a car leave a town at 10:30 AM and travel in opposite directions.
The bus travels at an average speed of 50km/hr and the car travels at the average speed of 55km/hr
:
Let t equal the time taken for the journey.
i) Write an expression in t for the distance travelled by bus
50t
ii) Write an expression in t for the distance travelled by the car
55t
iii) write an equation in t to show the time at which the bus and the car are 140km apart
50t + 55t = 140
105t = 140
iv) Solve for T
t = 140/105
t = 11%2F3 hrs which is 1 hr 20 min, 10:30 + 1:20 = 11:50 am
v) If the car and the bus travelled in the same direction, at what time would the car be 30km in front of the bus??
55t - 50t = 30
5t = 30
t = 30/5
t = 6 hrs after 10:30 which is 4:30 pm
