Question 1131481: An aircraft manufacturer randomly selects 12 planes of the same model and tests them to
determine the distance (in meters) they require for takeoff. The sample mean and standard deviation are
computed to be 524 m and 23 m, respectively. At the 5% level of significance, test the claim that the mean
for all such planes is more than 500 m.
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Ho: mean is 500 m or fewer
Ha: mean is > 500 m
This is a t statistic with t df=11 0.95=1.796, which is the critical value
t=(x bar-mean)/s/sqrt(n)
=24/23/sqrt(12)
=3.615
This is greater than the hypothesis that mean is <=500 m, so we reject Ho and conclude the mean is in fact greater than 500 m (one way test) p-value is 0.002
