Question 1131342: A student made two applications for two colleges. the probability of acceptance in engineering is 0.5 and in medicine is 0.3. if the probability of being rejected by both colleges is 0.85, what is the probability of acceptance in one of the two colleges?
what does acceptance in one college mean? any one, at least one? please explain.thank you Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! "in one of the two colleges" means either one but not both. It takes the word "or".
P(E or M)=P(E)+P(M)-P(both E and M), the latter being 0.15
=0.5+0.3-0.15
=0.65
