Question 1131135: how many ways can a president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary be chosen from a committee of 12 people? Answer by ikleyn(52781) (Show Source):
12 ways for the president position;
11 ways for the vice president position;
10 ways for the treasure position; and
9 ways for the secretary position.
In all, there are 12*11*10*9 = 11880 ways. ANSWER
The order is important (the order does matter) - so we use permutations and do not use combinations in this problem.
