The difference between the length and width of a rectangle is 2 units. The perimeter is 40 units. Write and solves system of equations to determine the length and width of the rectangle
Let the DIMENSIONS be x and y
Then we get: x - y = 2 -------- eq (i)
Also, x + y = 20 ------- eq (ii)
Solve by adding the 2 equations, thereby eliminating y and finding the value of x
Substitute value of x into EITHER eq (i) or (ii) to find y.
You have found the DIMENSIONS of the rectangle.
